As a the owner of a home, keeping up with your home can often feel like a full-time job. There are numerous  that need to be done to a home in order to keep it running smoothly.

Plumbing maintenance is one of the many priorities of your home that you have to keep updated through the year. We have inserted a check list that will aid you in looking for plumbing problems as well as potential plumbing problems that should be addressed before they surface as a major repair. These should help with the preventative care and proactive maintenance of your personal plumbing.

When thinking about your house's plumbing, you must come to realize the number of plumbing devices and pipes that are woven throughout the system. This doesn’t only cover the plumbing system that operates toilets, sinks, showers, and bathtubs in your home, it also covers laundry facilities in your home for your washer, utility sinks, and drains that may be installed.

  • Look for leak signs in visible pipes, where pipes run through walls, or the where they are located in the foundation of your home. Signs of leakage includes puddles of water and signs that water has been present.
  • Look for symptoms of corrosion - which can cause leaks and bad pipe connections if not handled correctly. See green stains around brass and copper fittings and on shutoff valves? That's probably corrosion.
  • Test yout water pressure! Pressure is typically defined as the amount of force the water comes out of faucets and showerheads with. Low water pressure can be a sign of outside contaminants within your pipes. It may also be a sign of a problem with the water line.
  • Look for cracked tiles in the shower, around sinks, or near water pipes in the home. Loose or hollow tiles can be an indication that there is, or was, a leak that has caused rotting underneath or behind the tile.
  • See if there are any issues with the caulking around the tub, sink, or toilet.
  • Check for mildew on your plumbing appliances. Mildew is caused by standing water that may have dried up again.
  • Push and pull on each toilet to see if it rocks or moves.
  • Drain the water heater to get rid of any built-up sediment or contaminants.
  • Turn on all of the faucets and make sure there is no water coming out of the handles and valves.
  • Check the washing machine cables and connections to ensure that there aren’t cracks or faults that could result in leakage.

By running through this checklist on an annual or bi-annual basis, you can check your home for plumbing problems or potential plumbing problems. If you find yourself facing one of these issues, however, call our Lewisville TX plumbing company.
